Dark Matter Sword (2024)
Medium: Digital (Krita)

With about 8 months post-graduation and who knows how many applications sent, I still hadn't had any luck landing my first job in the games industry (let alone a single interview). To keep myself from sitting around and doing nothing all day, I had at least been forcing myself to work on various projects during the job search. This happens to be one of them.

The character in this piece is Dark Matter Sword, originally from Kirby's Dream Land 2. I had always thought they looked really cool, so I decided to make a piece about them.

It was a great excuse to continue experimenting with replicating my colored pencil processes in a digital medium. I also incorporated a shading technique I had learned a while ago that utilizes hue shifting for highlights/shadows.

Don't ask how long the cloak took to draw.
