Audio Projects

FinalBlade 64 - 2023

This one was made for my time-based media class. I don't really have anything to really say about this one. I just made the first idea that came to mind. I think it is funny.

Audio used comes from Xenoblade Chronicles, Final Fantasy 4, Metal Slug, Metal Slug 3D, and International Ronaldinho Soccer 64.

Made in Audacity.

2 Sligs BLOW UP - 2022

I made this for my audio lab class. The project just had us create an audio skit, so I decided to make mine around two sligs from the Oddworld game series. I've always had a soft spot for those games, so it was a lot of fun working on this. I voiced both of the main sligs, and I'm especially proud of how close my impression turned out.

This was made entirely in ProTools within a couple of days. Contains assorted audio from the Oddworld games.

Music

Hammer of Justice (Remix) - Nov. 2025

I'm a huge fan of the Deltarune OST and Toby Fox's music in general, but there are parts to the original Hammer of Justice that always sounded... off to me. The intro seemed too long and didn't flow well into the main melody. The time change in the middle really messed with the pacing of the song - in a way that doesn't work, in my opinion - and the loop point at the end feels like too jarring a shift.

And so, I decided to make my own remix of it to change those parts! I re-wrote most of this by ear again. It admittedly is similar to the original, but that's entirely deliberate. Despite the issues stated, I do like a lot of what was already done, and I didn't feel a need to stray too far to get the sound I wanted. That said, I tried my best to make this remix my own and not just an edited copy. I even wrote some new parts myself!

This project got me some quality practice with making more complex sounds. As an example; the bassline is mostly a plucked synth bass and a synth yamaha keyboard playing simultaneously, as I wanted the clean, punchy, low-tone starts of the plucked bass, the gradual, decaying tones of the yamaha to fill the in-betweens of notes, and the resonance those two created when combined. There's a few other parts I composed in this manner as well. Plus, getting to see all the individual parts laid out helps me get a better sense for how I can compose certain melodies, which is immensely useful to me as I feel getting ideas out of my head and into something tangible is my biggest roadblock when it comes to creating my own compositions.

I'm still having issues with YouTube uploads though. I'm having to lower the upload volume down enough so YouTube doesn't start compressing my audio. I'd like to find a way to increase the upload volume a bit AND avoid compression. In any case, that's something I'll be working on in the future. At least I currently have a way to upload my stuff without it getting compressed, so the volume issues aren't the end of the world. Still would be nice to solve that though.

The Grand Dutchy of Jueno (arrangement) - SEp. 2025

The positive comments on my Meta Knight Defeated remix inspired me to do another cover, this time an arrangement of The Grand Dutchy of Jueno from Final Fantasy XI. Not a remix this time, as I didn't have any ideas for one.

I think I've made some progress in making the instruments not sound so MIDI-ey this time! The song itself took me less time to make, too, which is another positive. Unfortunately the thumbnail took me much longer than expected - about a week and a half. Still, everything was good for both learning music composition and practicing drawing environments.

And most importantly; I figured out how to keep YouTube from compressing the audio/art!

Meta knight defeated - JUN. 2025

Worked on this on and off over many months. One part because of life getting in the way, one part because of preoccupation, one part not finding the right instruments, and one part me learning FM synthesis to make a few of the instruments you hear (the bass and organ).

I think music composition won't be more than a hobby for now. I'm still a ways away from REALLY getting a feel for it. Still, I've definitely improved since my last remix of Shadow's Theme (FFVI). I was able to use some of the audio balancing tricks I learned during my time at university. Unfortunately, it does still sound a tad MIDI-ey (if that makes any sense). But hey, it's progress!

Also, I won't be adding the YouTube link here, as both the thumbnail and audio got compressed in the upload and I don't currently know how to fix it. Instead, here's the uncompressed versions of both.

Shadow's Theme (FFVI) - 2021

I've always liked music and I've wanted to try my hand at composing it for the longest time. (Or at least remixing some songs that I like for the fun of it) I never really got around to doing it due to how busy I was with school. It was only fairly recently that I decided to teach myself how to use LMMS by re-creating Shadow's Theme from Final Fantasy VI. It took me a week or two (70% of which was me trying to find/synthesize the right instruments), but it turned out pretty alright, in my opinion. Definitely not bad for a first attempt.

Even if this amounts to nothing more than a hobby, I hope to eventually understand music composition enough to write it myself.
